Stockings!!!

I got this guy for Christmas three years ago or so (the same year I got a drill…what can I say, I’m a renaissance woman!)

Sewing Machine

I’ve been a little afraid of it (the sewing machine NOT the drill) since then.  I used to sew a lot in high school, but I haven’t much since then, and I kind of forgot how to use a sewing machine!  But last year as I was decorating for Christmas, I decided I needed to make new stockings for my hubby and I. We both still use our childhood stockings.  My mom sewed stockings for our whole family when I was a kiddo, and I love that they’re homemade.  So I decided I really wanted to make some for our little family!  The nice thing about making your own stockings is that as your family grows, you don’t have to worry about stockings being discontinued at your local store…you just make another using the pattern!  So last fall, my mom sent me the pattern to the stockings she made for our family, but the season flew by and I never really got around to making them!  Yikes!

So this year I decided I HAD to make them!  I went to the fabric store with plans to get a redish (Katy red) fabric for my stocking and a greenish fabric for my hubby’s stocking.  The green I use in my Christmas decor is kind of a limey green, and all the fabrics I found in this color were really girly.  I found a red and off-white fabric I really liked for me,

but I couldn’t find a coordinating fabric for the hubby…until…I found this:

Hubby Fabric

I know, it’s black and white, BUT I love it.  And with the other fabric it looks really festive but modern.  The style of our house is traditional with a modern twist, and I think these two fabrics really capture that feel!  Plus, when it’s time to make stocking #3, we can add a green fabric to the mix!

I haven’t sewed the stockings yet as I forgot the fusing for the inside of the stockings, but I cut them all out and got the sewing machine set up!  Here’s what the stockings look like all laid out:

I’ll show them to you again when they’re all sewn up!
