Today I’m starting a weekly segment called Twenty Dollar Tuesdays, where I’ll give you tips on home decor projects you can undertake for under $20! I’m the queen of thrifty home decorating, so I’m here to pass some of my favorite ideas onto you. So sit back, relax, and enjoy the very first Twenty Dollar Tuesday!
Before we get started, I’d like to apologize for the photo quality. I’m having issues with the Nikon, so these were snapped using my handy dandy iPhone.
One of the biggest decorating problems I had to address when we moved into our house last year, was what to do with all the wall space. I love photos as much as the next girl, but I’m not one to put up family snapshots all over my house. I do like art, artistic photography, and 3-D or architectural pieces. Knowing I had a limited budget to find wall art for our house, I came up with several creative solutions, all under $20! Perhaps the simplest thing to d dishware o is…drumroll please…hang a plate. Browse your cupboards, or head down to Pier One and pick up a inexpensive piece of (any size or shape will do), purchase a plate hanger (available anywhere picture frames are sold), and there you have it–instant wall art! Contrasting flat photos and artwork with something 3 dimensional, like plates, will really help spice up a space!
I have this plate hanging above an arch in our Master Bedroom:
I found it for a few dollars at a boutique home decor store. I love the light blue plate against the chocolate walls of our bedroom.
If you really want to go wild, try hanging plates in twos, threes, fours, or (gasp) fives! These plates are hanging in our upstairs guest bedroom:
The bedroom has sort of a shabby chic feel, and these fit right in with the decor. I purchased them at Pier One last spring for just $4 a plate! So, next time you’re looking for something to spice up your walls with, try a plate!
