Last night I attended my first Dining Out…a military tradition in which we get all dolled up and essentially mock military traditions. It was a great time, but let’s just say I’ve needed almost the whole day to recover. While recovering, I’ve done quite a bit of surfing, and I have a new obsession: Painted Pianos.
I first saw this before and after on Design*Sponge.
How cute is that piano? I LOVE it. I frequently see free pianos on craigslist, and this would be such a fun addition to a room! I immediately googled “painted pianos”, and I found these:
From Design Mom (She also includes tips on how to paint a piano if you’re interested in tackling this project.):
From Don Kelly Antiques:
And last but not least, from DIY Wedding, a beautiful teal piano which was featured on a wedding Save the Date:
So go out there and try something bold!

Note to Sean: Any time your wifey bats her eyes and says something like, “Honey, I need you to pick up a little piece of furniture I bought on Craig’s List.” Be afraid, be very, very afraid. It’s a trick. And then, have her sign a contract that she will help you move said piece of furniture any time she redecorates. I’ll draft one if you like.
Two things:
first… it was Dad who bought our piano at an auction and lugged it home (remember the photo of him playing it in the back of grandpa’s pickup truck?) so, my note is: if your hubby smiles and says something like, “sweetie, i just bought something at an auction…” be sure to tell him it is *his* responsibility to move said piece of furniture!
second….our family had a big, old upright piano when i was young. it was almost victorian in design. ornate carving and such. and my mom was into her “antiquing” craft phase. and she painted this hulking, intricated designed piano a bright green (like the photo above) and then “antiqued” it… which was brown brush strokes all over the base coat.
you must come by your furniture-painting skills genetically!
It’s a wonder she didn’t decoupage it ;D
Oooh…decoupage!
