I’m really excited–today I’m going to share with you my ideas for the nursery! It’s kind of neat, because over the next few months I’m going to take you along in the process of how I put together a room from start to finish. Here’s how I start:
STEP 1: I already told you about this step a few days ago. This is the initial research phase, when I look at magazines, websites, and blogs for inspiration.
STEP 2: Develop my ideas.
One of my sources of inspiration for this project is the decor of one of my favorite little boutiques here in our town (one of my very first blog posts was about this store!). It has this whole shabby, beach cottage vibe that I LOVE. The shabby, beach cottage thing doesn’t really go with the rest of our house, so I’ve never been able to use a lot of what I see there. So when I found out I was pregnant (okay, let’s be honest, maybe even BEFORE I found out I was pregnant), I decided this shabby, beach cottage look would be the theme for the nursery. The pallet will be sky blue, white, and aqua. And I’ll use this if we have girls, boys, or one of each! But if it’s girls I might incorporate a few more mermaids and some lace and if it’s boys I might incorporate a few more boats.
Now, I’m going to show you a few of my inspiration pictures specifically for this design!
I love beachy accessories like this. And a lot of the things I’ve found online and in stores (like this sign) I’m pretty confident I can make myself.
I plan on reusing some furniture that we already have, but, of course, I’ll need to update it a bit to go with the new room. I love this painted dresser, and plan on doing something similar to a dresser that we already have.
I found this little starfish on Etsy, and I think it’s just adorable. They’ll definitely be lots of little details like this in the room! I love that this stuff all isn’t “Baby”, but I think overall the room is going to be VERY soothing…or a least I hope it will be
.
This is a picture I saw a while ago on The Lettered Cottage. I love the finish on this bench, and would love to do something similar to a piece in the nursery!
Other than the cribs (White matching cribs, which I’m hoping I’ll find on Craigslist in the next month or so…keep your fingers crossed for me!), none of the furniture or accessories will be specifically baby, which makes shopping/ crafting everything pretty easy! BUT I have been trying to find bedding to go in the cribs, which has proven to be pretty difficult. I really wanted to find something really simple in blue and white. I’ve found plenty of solid blue or white bed skirts and sheets, but I have not found any bumpers…it seems like ALL baby bedding has little characters all over it! I’ve been picturing something in blue and white, in a really simple print or design without bunnies or bears or giraffes or anything like that (not that I’m opposed to these things, I just don’t want them for this specific nursery!). I’ve looked and looked and looked and come up with nada. That is, until today! I randomly got a promotional e-mail from The Company Store, and thought, “I wonder if they have baby bedding?” And they did!
I found this bumper which is PERFECT! And what’s better? It was on sale! Because it was on sale, I was afraid they might be discontinued soon, so I went ahead and ordered them today! Woo hoo! My first nursery purchase!
What do you all think?

B on main?!?
