Closet Couture

First of all, I’d like to thank all the men and women who have served our country. Especially this one:

And I’m a lucky girl, as of today he’s now home with me again! Woo hoo!

But while he was gone for a few weeks, I decided I needed to take on a little project. Last week, I had read a great tutorial on painting stripes over on Centsational Girl, and it totally inspired me to take on one of the spaces that I HATE in our house…the best part? It was a whole six square feet–our coat closet! Here’s what it looked like a few days ago:

You can’t really tell in this pic, but the white paint was dingy, and pretty beat up. I’m pretty sure it was the original coat of paint put on when our house was built in the 1960s. I love that we have two closets right in our foyer–one for the vacuum cleaner, the Hubby’s motorcycle gear, winter coats, etc. and then this one which we can actually use to hang up guests’ coats and purses. I loved having this space, but the closet was always so ugly that I felt embarrassed to open the door.

But not anymore! Here’s what it looks like now:

This was a pretty inexpensive project, and didn’t take a lot of time either.  I simply painted the interior of the closet, added the stripes per Centsational Girl’s tutorial, and then accented those fabulous stripes with new hangers ($4), two new canvas bins from Target ($8 each), and a cute little rug from Target ($12). And ta-da–it’s now one of my favorite spaces in the house! It makes me smile to hang up my coat each day in that happy little closet. Now, if only I can work up the courage to take on painting the open living room/dining room/ kitchen/ breakfast nook/ hallway area…

It’s the downstairs hall closet, right when you walk in the front door. And I’m feeling pretty great now…back to my old self staying up to the wee hours of the morning working on projects. :)

Wow! I can’t believe you painted the inside of a closet! My closets never look that good! I would have to leave my closet doors open all the time if my closets looked like that. :)
I bet you smile every time you open the door.
    Great job!
